About Lower Body Lift Surgery

Lower body lift surgery eliminates hanging skin and fat to lift and reshape trouble spots of the body that have been impacted by age, weight loss, and/or pregnancy.

Lower body lift surgery focuses on the mid- and lower body and includes the buttocks, stomach, love handles, low back, and thighs. This procedure re-contours the patient’s body for a more shapely and naturally attractive look.

San Francisco, CA plastic surgeon Dr. James Anthony has extensive experience with lift surgeries and focuses on elegantly natural-looking results, helping happy patients to not only achieve their ideal weight, but to also get a firmer body that appears healthy and beautiful.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for a Lower Body Lift?

If you’ve lost a large amount of weight and find yourself dealing with other cosmetic challenges as a result, you might very well be an ideal candidate for lower body lift surgery. Significant weight loss can cause wrinkled, loose skin on the upper thighs and buttocks, lax skin that hangs on the stomach, and sagging skin across the mid-section. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll want to be at or near a stable weight before undergoing a lower body lift.

For those who are considering this surgery, it's helpful to understand realistic goals, which Dr. Anthony will go over with you during your consultation.

Dr Anthony was recommended to me, and I've had more than one procedure at his clinic. At my initial consultation I felt at ease to ask a myriad of questions. He has a warm style, listens and works to understand each individual body and situation. His work is a skilled blend of art and science, and he recommends what is best for the patient, not what is trending. Each time I've been impressed with Dr Anthony's ability to minimize scars and hide them well.

Dr. Anthony’s Surgical Technique

This procedure involves general anesthesia and generally requires one night's stay in our adjacent hotel with one of our trained caregiver personnel. The surgery can take an average of 4 to 7 hours.

According to the desired amount of skin removal, an incision may be made all the way around the waist, granting the highest amount of lift and skin excision.

This incision is typically made along the area where a belt is worn, which is why it is sometimes known as a circumferential 360 lift or beltectomy. After the incision is made, liposuction will treat areas of excess fat and sagging skin will be trimmed. The remaining skin will then be stretched taut and attached with stitches. Compression garments may be worn over the lower body to help create a trimmer result and to minimize swelling, bleeding, and bruising.

What Can I Expect After My Lower Body Lift?

Lower body lifts are classified as an advanced cosmetic procedure. This surgery will leave some scarring due to the size of its required incisions. It also involves a somewhat longer recovery period, making it helpful to prepare in advance with regard to work and family care.

It takes most patients at least two or more weeks to get back to light activities, and in certain patients, as many as six months before they can get back to more active movements like exercise. Dr. Anthony or a member of his highly experienced staff will discuss clear instructions and information on caring for the wound so that scars are healed for seamless results. While the recovery period can seem lengthy, the results are often quite extraordinary, providing patients with a tighter, smoother body while freeing them from the loose, hanging skin that had been preventing them from experiencing their best life.

FAQ

How much does a lower body lift cost?

The price of a lower body lift procedure will vary from patient to patient. During your consultation, a member of our team will be able to discuss a treatment plan that can fit your needs and budget. We also offer financing options and payment plans to help make your treatment as affordable as possible.

Will I have visible scarring?

There are several factors that can contribute to the amount of scarring an individual may experience after a lower body lift including age, genetics, and skin color. At our practice, our trained plastic surgeons work to create incisions in areas that can be well hidden. We also will provide you with aftercare instructions on how to help your incisions heal properly for minimal scarring.

What can I expect during recovery?

After a lower body lift procedure, you may experience some swelling and bruising around the treatment area. We will set up follow-up appointments so Dr. Anthony can closely track your healing process and ensure that you’re getting the aftercare you need. It’s also important to contact our office if you experience any abnormal or significantly painful side effects.

When should I consider getting a lower body lift?

When contemplating a lower body lift there are a few things to consider:

  • You should be at or near your goal weight.
  • You may not be a candidate if you anticipate losing a significant amount of weight after surgery.
  • Prior to surgery, you must also complete a physical examination to ensure that your body is stable enough for surgery.

Will I have to stay overnight in the hospital?

Since many patients experience discomfort after a lower body lift procedure, you may be recommended to stay overnight in our adjacent hotel with one of our trained caregiver personnel. In most cases, patients do not need to spend more than a one-night stay. This allows you to be monitored and your pain to be controlled.
